Apple is planning to introduce a 15.4in MacBook laptop PC in the second quarter of 2007, according to unnamed industry sources quoted in a report at DigiTimes.
DigiTimes also predicts that the new 15.4in MacBook will offer more bangs-per-buck than the 13.3in model, simply because of the relatively lower cost of the larger LCD panels.
So, if the newcomer does turn up, then it could possibly slot in below the top model in the high-volume/low-end range of 13.3in MacBooks (currently £749, £879 and £999 inc VAT) or cost only a little more, so as to maintain the pricing differential with the more upmarket 15.4in (£1,349 & £1,699) and 17in (£1,899) MacBook Pros.
Interestingly, the report details who makes current Mac notebook PCs (Asustek Computer for the 13.3in MacBooks and Quanta Computer for the MacBook Pros) and says that it's Quanta that gained the contract for the forthcoming 15.4in MacBooks.
