Fujitsu Siemens debuted a couple of new midrange AMILO notebooks at IFA 2007, and both were geared towards, dare we say, embracing the digital age.

The AMILO Xi 2428 tips the scales at 3kg and packs in an Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processor, NVIDIA GeForce 8600GS 256MiB graphics card, a 15.4in wide-aspect LCD, and hard drive capacities up to 250GB.

We like the fact that it ships with a comprehensive feature-list, comprising, in the main, of an HDCP-equipped HDMI port, the PCIe-based ExpressCard slot, integrated camera and microphone, WiFi, Bluetooth, eSATA, 5-in-1 card reader, and FireWire400 - phew!

The Xi 2428 will start shipping at £699 for the base (unannounced) specification, and we expect it to be at the usual e-tailers for the pre-Christmas rush.

The Xi 2528 features a larger 17in display, ability to add a second hard drive, and beefed-up sound via a built-in subwoofer. It'll be a little heavier on the pocket and tip the scales at a respectable 4kg.

Both have the makings of decent laptops. Build quality, from what we observed, was good, too.
