We've seen Intel officially release the Classmate Tablet netbook, just after ASUS announced the T91 and T101H models. HP, though, is moving touch to the big screen with its DX9000 Touchsmart business PC.
The premise is simple enough: design an all-in-one desktop PC with a touch-sensitive screen. The Touchsmart uses a 22in, 1,680x1,050px screen whose chassis is also home to a complete PC that's based around a mobile Intel platform.
The base system includes an Intel Core 2 Mobile P8400 CPU, GM45 chipset with X4500HD graphics, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, 320GB SATA drive, media-card reader, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Gigabit LAN, dual onboard speakers, and optical drive. Those specifications are reminiscent of a high-end laptop's, and that's clearly where the Touchsmart comes from.
Bundled with Windows Vista Business 64, the DX9000 Touchsmart will cost from $1,399. If you think that you've seen it before, you probably have. HP launched a consumer version, IQ506, last year.
Thinking of the business aspect, HP highlighted a few cases where the Touchsmart could be used. One centred around it being the base for bespoke room-service and entertainment in high-end hotels. Pictured below is a US-based application, GuestMVP, run on the Touchsmart, that facilitates ordering of food and beverages as well as entertainment.
