The Alienware Aurora and Alienware Area-51
The bigger of Dell's two new Alienware desktops - the Alienware Area-51, pictured below - is available in standard or ALX editions. Both aren't for the faint hearted, but the ALX edition throws in extras that allow for "increased bragging rights," says Dell.
In the case of the Area-51, ALX extras include an anodised aluminium body and a motorised front panel.
Inside the system you'll find a choice of factory-overclocked Intel Core i7 processors, the option of dual SLI'd NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 graphics cards, up to 12GB of DDR3 memory and an array of RAID storage configurations. There's also the option of pre-configured liquid cooling.
Looks a beast, but the Area-51 is yet to appear on Dell's UK website so there's no mention of UK pricing. What we do know, however, is that the micro-ATX Alienware Aurora, pictured below, is the cheaper option.
Prices for this one start at £1,099 for a standard edition and £1,899 for the Aurora ALX - the latter will give you access to features such as an Active Venting louvre system, internal theatre lighting and cable-free hard drive bays.
Inside the smaller Aurora desktops you'll find a choice of Intel Core i7 processors and the option for dual ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics cards.
