The emergence of PC enclosures that focus on specific usage scenarios has highlighted potential drawbacks in chassis that attempt to shoehorn as much as possible into a mid-tower frame.

In an effort to cover all bases and appeal to a wider audience, Cooler Master's Silencio 652S is open to multiple configuration options but doesn't excel in any one particular area. The simple, sleek exterior is inviting and the £75 price tag is in line with expectations, but a few internal niggles prevent the enclosure from hitting all the right notes.

A lack of space behind the motherboard tray makes cable management more challenging than it should have been, the array of storage bays stifle airflow, and for a chassis focussed on keeping noise levels down to a minimum, the supplied fans aren't as high quality as we'd hoped.

Cooler Master is just a few small tweaks away from an ideal sound-dampened enclosure, and we look forward to a subsequent release that addresses our aforementioned concerns. As it stands, the Silencio 652S may find it difficult to compete in a fiercely contested marketplace full of many worthy alternatives.
