Power Consumption

Power numbers are also a mixed bag. Idle consumption on the Asus board is higher than we see elsewhere. We also noticed that more power is shunted through the latest chips than on previous generations, evidenced by the higher consumption for Core i7-7820X and Core i9-7900X versus, say, the Core i7-6950X. That could be one reason, another could be that HandBrake is better optimised for the Skylake architecture, and the twin CPUs' better-than-expected performance and higher utilisation lend weight to this assertion.

We get back to CPU power parity with gaming, however. So unless you are mining for cryptocurrencies there is no real need for a super-beefy PSU.
