We see the start of what will be a familiar tale in the upcoming benchmarks. The fact that Threadripper is based on the same Zen architecture as Ryzen means that its single-threaded performance is mediocre.

The rival Intel $999 chip, Core i9-7900X is way faster in this regard. However, start taxing that massive, massive horsepower and Threadripper shines. Our logs showed that CPU utilisation averaged around 70 per cent on AMD's beast, intimating there is more performance to come in benchmarks that fully sate the 32 threads.
