Power Consumption

Remember the discussion of the power states and TDP on the first page. This is where that analysis comes home to roost.

Enabling the chip to run all workloads at a long-term 5.0GHz means ignoring the PL1 state by delivering oodles more power. System-wide power consumption is 16 per cent higher than the Ryzen 9 3900X. That's no problem with respect to power supplies, but such concentration of juice puts the onus on cooling. Our high-end Noctua cooler, run with a single fan, peaked at 86°C at stock speeds.
