3DMark Time Spy
Rendered at a 2,560x1,440 QHD resolution and making use of DX12 technologies such as asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter and multi-threading, Time Spy is a forward-looking 3DMark benchmark that hints at GPU potential in various upcoming games.
These graphs are interesting. The first one, Time Spy, run via DX12, shows that RX Vega 64 struggles to hold on to the coat-tails of the GTX 1080. However, as before, and comparing reference to reference, RX Vega 56 is faster than GTX 1070.
The second graph shows the inadequacy of the reference blower cooler used by AMD. RX Vega 64 runs with more shaders and more power than RX Vega 56. The direct effect is a TDP limit that is difficult to contain from the heatsink design, so much so that performance is inconsistent. Any score below 97 per cent is a fail in this test, and RX Vega 64 and Titan Xp share the dubious honour of having reference coolers that are overwhelmed by the silicon underneath.
