Rendered at a 2,560x1,440 QHD resolution and making use of DX12 technologies such as asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter and multi-threading, Time Spy is a forward-looking 3DMark benchmark that hints at GPU potential in various upcoming games.

You did expect the new cards to stomp all over the old ones, didn't you?

A combination of more brute strength, a more elegant architecture, and more memory bandwidth gives the RTX 2080 Ti FE a 37 per cent lead over the GTX 1080 Ti.

The RTX 2080 still manages to put 12 per cent into the best GeForce of the last generation.

All that power but not used very consistently, going by the stress test scores. A card needs to have a rating of 97 per cent for it to pass here, meaning there is less than three per cent run-to-run variation. The RTX 2080 FE manages this, just, but the meatier RTX 2080 Ti comes up short.
