The latest instalment in the Gears of War series delivers heart-stopping action and the developers at The Coalition deserve genuine credit for proving that high-profile ports can be every bit as stunning as their console counterparts, if not more so.

An older title that's well coded so runs nicely on less-powerful hardware, performance remains stellar on the new GPUs. It's interesting to see the architectural benefits of the RTX 2080 don't have the expected effect across the resolutions - it is a little slower than GTX 1080 Ti. This may well occur in titles that have fewer integer instructions than newer games, thus not tapping into the concurrent processing ability of the Turing GPU.

Interestingly, running the AIDA GPGPU benchmark shows that RTX 2080 manages 11,178 INT32 GIOPS while GTX 1080 Ti can only handle 4,342, underscoring the benefits of moving them to a separate pipe.

Still, back on point, we're not going to complain about 4K60 performance.
