Rendered at QHD or UHD resolutions and making use of DX12 technologies such as asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter and multi-threading, Time Spy is a modern 3DMark benchmark that hints at GPU potential in today's latest games.

We have a new chart topper, with MSI's RTX 2080 Ti Lightning Z beating the equivalent Founders Edition by almost seven per cent in the synthetic Time Spy tests.

Performance is fast, there's no doubt about that, yet it is interesting to see the card fail the Stress Test with a score of 96.2. Cards need to manage 97 per cent in order to pass, and our logs reveal a fair amount of inconsistency when it comes to real-world frequency. Our sample starts off close to 2,000MHz when gaming, but soon settles down to around 1,860MHz.

We're also now able to run the recently released Port Royal test, and while these may be early days for ray tracing, Lightning Z is ultimately about as good as it gets for those wanting to see the new tech at its best.
