Overclocking
OverclockingOverclocking of the Crucial X850 XT card was carried out by using PowerStrip. 3DMark05 was used to assess card stability at overclocked frequencies. A clean pass of the entire test was deemed a successful overclock. No extra cooling was directed at the card and the ambient temperature was 24c.
The card whizzed past RADEON X850 XT Platinum Edition speeds of 540MHz core and 1180MHz RAM. Perhaps Crucial would do well marketing this as an 'XT PE. Of course, your overclocking may be better or worse than this sample. Don't count on all X850 XTs being 100% stable at PE speeds. DOOM 3 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory were re-run at 1600x1200 4x AA 8x AF with the results of the overclocked card included.
As one would expect, the performance is slightly better than a stock-clocked X850 XT PE's.
