3DMark 2001SE and 3DMark03
3DMark 2001SE b330- Author: MadOnion/Futuremark
- DirectX Class: 8.1
- Pixel and Vertex Shaders: Yes (Nature test) PS1.1/1.4

Things are pretty even at the default resolution. The NVIDIA cards take the lead with image enhancement applied. The lead is further solidified at 1600x1200, not that any card produced a smooth run at that setting. We're most interested in the benchmarks obtained at 1024x768x32 with 4x AA and 8x AF.
3DMark03 b340
- Author: MadOnion/Futuremark
- DirectX Class: 9.0
- Pixel and Vertex Shaders: Yes (all tests) PS1.1/1.4/2.0
- FSAA and AF set via application's control panel

It's all much of a muchness with 3DMark03. NVIDIA's ForceWare 53.03 drivers never made it on the Futuremark approved list. We found there to be no discernible image quality variation between the rival cards. We're surprised that the Gainward card manages to pull out around 10% over the reference card. The results were repeatable, though. Using these two synthetic benchmarks as a guessing base, we reckon that the FX 5700 Ultra and ATI Radeon 9800SE AIW will play most games competently at the middle quality setting.
