Serious Sam, Unreal Tournament 2003

Serious Sam: SE

Vendor: Croteam - (Website)
API: DirectX 8.0
Pixel Shader Version Supported: No pixel shaders

A couple of more traditional tests to round things off. Pure fillrate wins here, the 6800 Ultra's extra quad pipeline and 450MHz+ core speed account for all of the performance. Serious Sam: SE has issues on X800 PRO with current drivers, the performance identical to 9800XT, indicating misuse of processing resources with that render setup (a quad pipe is turned off effectively). The driver doesn't add much to Serious Sam performance when optimisations are off, its fixed function nature less able to be optimised for, over the base performance. The default optimisations give a good boost at the median setting, again allowing 450/1200 with optimisations to beat 470/1200 without.

Unreal Tournament 2003

Vendor: Epic - (Website)
API: DX8.0
Pixel Shader Version Supported: PS1.1, some limited PS1.4 shaders to render terrain in less passes

We see a small increase with the new driver with only 2fps gained at the higher resolution setting. The Gainward is comfortably faster than the X800 PRO at all times. One wonders what an X800 XT PE would do. The default Quality optimisations again offset any clock boost with them turned off, whilst retaining almost all the base image quality.
