Power, Temperature and Noise

Knowing that GTX 960 and GTX 950 are derived from the same die, power consumption between the two mainstream GTX 900-series models isn't too dissimilar.

Remember when we revealed that Palit's GTX 950 StormX Dual doesn't use dedicated heatpipes? Here's the consequence of that decision. 75ºC while gaming isn't particularly hot, but it's enough to cause the GPU to second-guess its peak frequency. Sifting through our log files reveals that core frequency would occasionally drop from 1,304MHz to 1,291MHz in order to keep to the target temperature.

Yet, while not the coolest GTX 950, Palit does benefit from a pair of good-quality fans. The duo kick into action when temperature exceeds 65ºC but remain suitably quiet and can barely be heard over our already-quiet chassis fans.
