Benchmarks: CPU
The Intel Core i5-8300H is new to the charts and the 45W chip gets off to a strong start. A 4GHz peak frequency helps it snap at the heels of Core i7 in the PiFast test, and multi-threaded results are in line with our expectations of a quad-core design.
We've seen various laptops struggle to maintain high speeds with an 8th Gen CPU, and Dell's G5 15 also has to take evasive action - CPU frequency is quickly dialled down as core temperature rises, but then balances out at around 3.3GHz across all cores under maximum load.
