Intel's six-core, 12-thread Core i7-9750H has become a prime choice for today's high-performance laptops. The chip offers excellent all-round results, but the degree of throttling will vary from one laptop to another. Gigabyte's Aero tends to do well in this regard, with the new OLED machine managing to sustain all-core speeds of around 3.2GHz during demanding workloads. That's a hair slower than the Classic, but do note that the newer system was tested on a hot summer's' day.

It's also worth reminding readers that Aero systems now come pre-loaded with Microsoft Azure-powered AI software. Intended to optimise power delivery and fan speeds dynamically based on workload, the AI can result in a small, free speed increase as demonstrated by our prior testing. Handy for those who insist on extracting every last ounce, but in our experience the dramatic rise in fan noise outweighs the potential performance boost.
