Benchmarks: Battery Life
It could be argued that battery life is the single-most important factor when picking a new laptop, and considering there's a 4.6GHz Intel Core i7 processor at the helm, the Lenovo ThinkPad T490s more than delivers. A runtime of over 18 hours during our standard HD video playback test is exemplary, and represents a 64 per cent improvement over the T495s. We wonder how much of that can be attributed to the low-power display?
We are currently in the process of changing our test methodology to incorporate the new PCMark 10 Battery Profile benchmarks. Three tests will be used; Office, which intermittently uses the writing, web browsing and video conferencing workloads from the main PCMark 10 benchmark; Video, which loops a 1080p full-screen movie file for the duration; and Gaming, which uses the common Fire Strike test to stress the GPU until the battery is drained.
The Intel-based ThinkPad once again puts in an impressive showing. Never mind getting through a day's work, T490s may well have enough remaining charge for the following day, too.
