The first two benchmarks test the laptops' CPU grunt and, to some extent, hard-drive speed. The AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-80 is no match for the Centrino chips, and the three Turion-powered machines produce reasonably similar times.

It's scary to think that a Centrino 2 P8400, operating at 2.26GHz, is twice as fast at the HEXUS.photofix test than a 2.1GHz Turion Ultra X2.

The transcoding test also runs faster on Intel hardware, and the difference is over a minute from fastest  to slowest.
