Final Thoughts and Rating

The combination of a quad-core, third-generation Intel processor and AMD Radeon HD 7970M graphics delivers blockbuster performance in today's latest games.

Buying a laptop generally entails having to make a compromise or two. Choose something as small and portable as a netbook and you typically sacrifice performance, opt for a system as svelte as an Ultrabook and you'll most probably lose out on I/O ports and a discrete GPU. And, of course, you have those awkward scenarios where laptop vendors pair powerful hardware with a lacklustre display.

Scan's 3XS Graphite LG10 takes a different approach. Quad-core processing, a dedicated graphics card, more I/O ports than you're ever likely to use, an optical drive and a full-HD display - it's all here. The compromise, of course, is the meaty Clevo chassis. While providing ample room and cooling capacity for high-end hardware, the bulky frame is lacking in sex appeal and it's not a laptop you'd want to carry around on a regular basis.

Where the Graphics LG10 makes an impression is as a desktop replacement. The combination of a quad-core, third-generation Intel processor and AMD Radeon HD 7970M graphics delivers blockbuster performance in today's latest games. Cranking image quality to maximum and sitting back to watch a 15.6in machine spit out smooth frame rates is an experience that die-hard gamers will appreciate, and though we're hoping for more refinement in the next round of Clevo chassis, the current crop ultimately allows the LG10 to live up to its billing; it is a mighty-fast gaming laptop.

The Good

Top-notch laptop performance
Full-HD 15.6in display
Will play the latest games
Comprehensive I/O selection
Free of bloatware

The Bad

Unattractive chassis
Average keyboard
Big and heavy, even for a 15.6in

Is it just me or are machines like this becoming less relative while actually maturing enough to be useful?

Various small changes to the layout can take a bit of getting used to - we're not fans of the single-height enter key or the relocated backslash
Looks like a normal US keyboard (ANSI), no unusual changes that I can see.

Can scan also supply a UK keyboard (ISO) version?

Yes. But it's possible to get similar performance in slightly smaller chassis too - going purely on the photos, my Dell M6600 (albeit 17") isn't anywhere near as thick. It's not portable, but it doesn't look huge either (which this Clevo does, at least from the Hexus photo angles!).

Check the 3 key, this is their UK keyboard, the one Clevo supplies as UK at least.
looks a beast. Beast being the world. It's too heavy for a laptop. Screen res is ok, but I would prefer a IPS option on it.
