Notes

I'll be comparing the performance of the Voodoo laptop against my personal laptop and a somewhat equivalent desktop machine. Non-3D benchmarks will be run with the Envy m:855 in mains-powered mode. Gaming benchmarks will be run in both battery and mains-powered mode. The premise is to see what kind of performance one gets with the processor running at the full 2GHz and at 800MHz. Gaming benchmarks will use the same format as graphics card benchmarks, that is, a bias towards quality rather than speed.

The Dell laptop has a lesser spec., especially with respect to graphical benchmarks. This is not a like-for-like comparison. We're attempting to see just what kind of performance improvement the Mobility Radeon 9600 gives over an established NVIDIA mobile adapter.

Any attempt to overclock or tinker with the BIOS meet with complete failure. As always, benchmarks were conducted three times, and the highest and lowest results were discarded
