Discussion

Fujitsu Siemens' LifeBook T4215 UMTS Tablet PC is powered by Intel's mobile Merom processor, operating at 1.83GHz in this case. The same model is also available with a faster Core 2 Duo Mobile T7200, raising the clockspeed to 2.0GHz and doubling the on-chip L2 cache to 4MiB.

The T4215 UMTS is clearly aimed at the business user and ships with Intel's integrated GMA950 accelerator that'll struggle to render any fast-paced game at the built-in TFT's native resolution of 1024 x 768.

Fujitsu uses a 12.1in XGA AnyLight TFT display that swivels in both directions. The non-widescreen (4:3) LCD contains an active digitiser, allowing you to navigate via an included stylus.

Connectivity is only compromised by the lack of FireWire. In contrast, Bluetooth, WiFi and Gigabit LAN are all embedded, as is UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) 3G cellphone technology - the standout feature of this Tablet PC. We'll discuss this further in our physical look.

The T4215 is a little porky for our liking, tipping the scales at almost 2.2kg with the included battery and dual-layer DVD re-writer.

Fujitsu Siemens includes a fingerprint-reader and a built-in shock-sensor that can be configured to lock the hard drive's head if excessive motion is detected. The standard warranty is two years, based on a collect-and-return service.

Let's now take a tour.
