So is the i975X chipset any faster than the present i955X and nForce4 SLI Intel Edition?.

The answer has to be a veritable no if consulting the above numbers. For all intents and purposes, i975X and i955X benchmark in near-identical fashion. Bandwidth and latency, the key determinants of performance, are very similar, obviously.
