Memory and single-threaded performance

Bandwidth is just where we'd expect it to be but latency is a touch down when compared to an i975X board running system memory and timings at the same speed.

However, single-threaded Pifast performance is stellar. We talked about the memory optimisations Intel has made with the 965-Express family of chipsets, which fall under the heading of Fast Memory Access, and it pays dividends here. Again, it's prudent to note that the Gigabyte board runs the Core 2 Extreme CPU a touch faster than on Intel's D975XBK, suggesting that some of the gain is artificially induced.
