3D System Tests

A set of graphical 3D tests now, setup so they exhibit changes in system performance and aren't graphics card bound. Q3 at 1024x768, High Quality first. We're long past the point where it's GPU bound, so it's now a good, easy to run, system test.

The fans favourite, 3DMark 2001SE. Look for the same pattern as before. Good performance at 10 x 200 with a further gap opening up at 9 x 223.

Just like we've seen before, the Biostar has a slight lead over the K8V at stock CPU settings with the same memory timings. Nearly 21000 marks at 2000MHz CPU speed is pretty special, even if it was run at 9 x 223. Here's the project compare link http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7266900.

There's still an element of the 3D test at work here. Games love L2 cache performance, both in size and latency, which is why Athlon 64 can put ~1000 marks into the fastest Northwood Pentium 4.

UT2003 next.

For whatever reason, most likely internal AGP controller timings or maybe a minor setup difference, the Biostar is a few frames per second up on both K8V setups. All Athlon 64 systems comfortably outpace the Pentium 4 setup. That L2 shakes its bootay.
