IGP performance

Is it too much to ask modern IGPs to run popular, established games engines at 1024x768 with low details?

It is, apparently. IGP designers need to strike a balance between the cost of extra silicon and heat associated with better graphical cores against pure performance. That balance errs on the side of keeping costs in check. AMD and NVIDIA needs to build these chipsets to a retail budget of around £50, and that will never buy you even low-end discrete card performance.
