ZyXEL P660HWP router
The second helping is the ZyXEL P660HWP HomePlug AV router. It's an ADSL router that provides Ethernet, wireless and HomePlug powerline connectivity, offering great flexibility for your home network. However, for this review, we'll just be testing the device's Ethernet-over-powerline functionality.
The rear of the box lists a few of the router's features, and offers several example configurations.
Inside the box, you'll find a quick-start guide; warranty card; CD containing the user manual and utilities; wireless antenna; power lead, and ADSL cable.
Looking at the front of the unit reveals the ribbed grey plastic base and glossy white plastic top. LED lights line the top, to signal the status of the various connectors.
The rear of the unit features the connectivity options. On the far left is the mounting point for the wireless aerial. To the right is the ADSL input; four 10/100 Ethernet ports; a reset button; power switch, and power connector.
The sides of the unit are slotted for ventilation.
Looking at it from above lets you appreciate the glossy white finish, as well as the sheer number of LEDs representing the various features of the router.
The unit is shipped with a protective film cover, which has a sticker telling you the default details to access the router's configuration menu. A similar sticker adorns the slipcase for the utilities CD.
