Benchmarks I

We'll first start off with SANDRA's unbuffered memory benchmark. This appears to take latencies into some form of account. We're comparing 233MHz (DDR466) OCZ with 2-7-3-3 timings to some Corsair at 202MHz with 2-6-2-2 timings. CPU speed is roughly the same in both instances.

Latencies are accounted for but the accounting isn't up to much. In fact, the OCZ's lead is far higher than expected.

Here's how SANDRA saw it. Lots of unbuffered bandwidth. We have a sneaky feeling that real benchmarks will be considerably closer than SANDRA's results.

Pifast is hugely dependant on not only total bandwidth but also the latency of bandwidth. It bears repeating that 2-6-2-2 timings take a performance chunk out of 2-7-3-3 timings if both are run at the same MHz. We have a faster FSB and faster OCZ RAM to contend with.

The OCZ setup is faster, that's plain to see. It seems as if low latency bandwidth matters a great deal in this benchmark. It's still hard to compete against synchronous 233FSB running, which is OCZ's forte.
