And here, quite clearly, is the innate problem of using very fast DDR4 memory on an Intel platform. The performance increases are meagre because the smart cache on the chip is so effective at minimising the need to go back to system memory on a frequent basis. Heck, Skylake would work just fine in single-channel mode, too.
