Benchmarks: CPU and Multimedia

Synthetic benchmarks don't always paint the full picture, mind. The tests on this page evaluate single- and multi-threaded CPU performance, as well as two multimedia workloads, video transcoding (via HandBrake) and image manipulation (Photoshop Speed Test).

CPU performance is practically identical irrespective of which memory kit is used, and it takes a niche scenario to highlight any real advantage of a large 32GB kit. Photoshop Speed Test involves making a 7,000-by-5,000-pixel image, duplicating, adding numerous transformations, layers, blurs and fills in an effort to use massive amounts of system memory in rapid fashion. The test serves to prove that more memory can be beneficial, provided you can put it to use.
