Performance is decent and the quad-core CPU has the added benefit of being particularly efficient. We'd have no qualms about leaving the TS-228A operating around the clock as the drives spin-down after a period of activity, reducing power consumption to just six watts. Noise output is also suitably low, though the use of mechanical disks is such that the NAS will be noticeable in a quiet room.
