CrystalDiskMark
Running the latest iteration of the popular synthetic CrystalDiskMark highlights the obvious truth that, if you can make use of it, then having PCIe 4.0 works wonders for sequential transfers.
We temper this knowledge by saying that the Kioxia Exceria certainly isn't the fastest PCIe 3.0 x4 drive around; the Plus version would almost double sequential scores and put it far closer to the Corsair. It's worth knowing that drive is £30 dearer than the standard Exceria being reviewed here.
There's not too much in it with respect to random 4K performance. Will most users notice the extra speed available on a PCIe 4.0 drive? Probably not, as moving a single 20GB from the host drive to the Exceria takes a mere 15 seconds.
