The Core i9-10900KF may be one of Intel's best consumer processors, yet competition in this space is now so fierce that the 10-core, 20-thread chip isn't able to dominate the charts.

This remains a highly-capable CPU that bodes well for just about any workload, but remember how we questioned the benefit of a factory 'ultimate overclock' that sees all cores cranked to 4.8GHz? Well, just to satisfy our curiosity, we went into BIOS and switched both the multiplier (48x) and voltage (1.3) back to auto.

At stock settings, the PiFast score improved by almost eight per cent to 12.16, and Cinebench was happier too, returning 537 in the single-thread test, and 6,264 in the multi-threaded, each with reduced power consumption. Point is, don't automatically assume an overclock to be a good thing.
