HEXUS.optical and HEXUS.convert

The HEXUS.optical test takes the Batman Begins DVD, all 6.95 GiB of it, and uses DVD Decrpyter to move it on to your hard drive, allowing for playback and link-up to your TV.
What the test does is evaluate how proficient the main optical drive is at copying files over. The HEXUS system's Pioneer 110D is substantially faster than the LG in the PC Specialist Q260GTX.

The convert test uses DVD Shrink to compress the files into a DVD-friendly 4.37GiB. The point here is to enable you to back-up your media on to cheap media.
The test is interesting insofar a fast hard drive is required to write the new (4.37GiB) file while it's being produced. Having two drives, as per the HEXUS system, allows for smoother compression than having to write back on to the same drive, a la the Q260GTX.
Interestingly, running on a 160GiB-equipped Dell laptop - Inspiron XPS 1330 - leads to constant buffer under, where the single drive cannot keep up with the compression meted out by the dual-core CPU.
