The Intel Core i7-6700K is the pick of the latest-generation Skylake crop and serves-up four cores and eight threads of performance in a 91W package. Three of the systems in our line-up are outfitted with the same CPU - Scan's 3XS Z170 Vengeance, Acer's Predator G6 and MSI's Vortex G65 - and the benchmark results show that the latter is off the pace.

With more room to manoeuvre and beefier cooling, the traditional desktops tend to run this particular chip at overclocked speeds of up to 4.6GHz, resulting in heightened performance. MSI, on the other hand, has to play it safe and downclocks the CPU to 4.0GHz in its out-the-box configuration. Performance is still mighty respectable for a system of this size, mind, and the Core i7 chip managed to maintain 4.0GHz throughout our benchmark runs with no evidence of throttling.
