Herculean task

ARM has a massive head start on Intel in the mobile phone market, with its designs being pretty much ubiquitous in today's handsets. It takes the Intel threat seriously, but is confident of its ability to stay one step ahead.

However, it clearly believes that attack is the best form of defence and, with its Cortex A8 and A9 processor designs, boasts processors it thinks can take on Atom.

The thing is, Intel is no less dominant in the netbook space than ARM is in the smartphone one, and it's a much larger company than any single member of the ARM ecosystem, let alone ARM itself.

In acknowledgement of the size of its task, ARM recently brought its director of mobile computing, Bob Morris (pictured talking to HEXUS.channel editor Scott Bicheno), over to the UK and we met him at the HEXUS offices.
