As the Internet grows ever more ubiquitous and they ways to access it multiply, new commercial opportunities are constantly being created.

As Ben Drury, CEO of digital media company 7digital explains, the creative industries have a uniquely double-edged relationship with this trend. While the opportunities to sell content have increased exponentially thanks to the Internet, so have the opportunities for people to acquire their products without paying for them.

In part two of our interview (click here for part one), Drury details some of the commercial initiatives his company is pursuing. Of particular interest are the doors opened by the trend towards Internet access on consumer electronics devices.

We can already buy and download a piece of music impulsively, from our radio, as soon as we hear it. If you imagine that capability extended to all other consumer electronics devices, you get an idea of where this trend is headed, and the policing challenges that lie ahead.

Interesting interview, i particularly like the guys quote “piracy can be fought with better services”

I wish the companies and government would actually take this information and spend some money on developing these services better instead of continuous law suits. Im not saying people who pirate should get away with it but i do think having reasonable online up to date services would be better for everyone.
