VXL Instruments has slashed the entry level price of entry level desktop thin clients with the new virtualisation-ready Itona TC1330, launched exclusively to the channel today at $185 ex VAT [£114 ex VAT at current exchange rate] and including features and specifications well beyond its price competitors.
The features include Linux Virtual Desktop on the optimised Sylph-OS operating system.
"The full function Itona TC1330 is 15-20% cheaper than the competition without any compromise on spec, performance or build," says Frank Noon, VP of Sales at Manchester-based VXL Instruments. "And it comes with VMware View 3.1 pre-loaded to provide an instant virtualisation solution. We see the TC1330 as helping the channel leverage more business in the rapidly expanding thin client space."
In addition, VXL has increased the channel margin on this product to make it more attractive to the channel. "The improved margin demonstrates our commitment to the channel," says Noon. "VXL is totally committed to a channel-only model and we are keen to grow our reseller base to help fulfil demand for the TC1330 and for future models products as they roll out."
Featuring a compact design - the box is just 7.5 inches high - the Itona TC1330 boasts ultra green and high security credentials. The fanless design allows for reliable and low power consumption, and because no data is stored onboard the unit is very secure as there is no data to be corrupted by viruses or lost if the TC1330 itself is stolen or lost.
"This is the year when thin client, driven by recession, improved specs, lower pricing and a growing demand from corporates for thin client solutions - and virtualisation - continues its breakthrough. There are good reasons for the channel to show real optimism in this sector," says Noon.
