Software vendor Avanquest has launched the beta version of a new, online photo sharing service designed with camera phones in mind.
"SendPhotos is a solution that allows you to share photos and share back," said David Wright - president of Avanquest's product design group - who was speaking to HEXUS.channel to explain this is the first of the next generation of products Avanquest is developing over the next 3-5 years. "We looked at phones from a photo angle and 95 percent of photos taken on a phone never leave it."
Avanquest is probably best known for products like Fix-It Utilities and it also has some pedigree as a republisher and distributor. This launch declares a change in strategy to try to become a player in the Web 2.0 world, alongside popular free web services like Facebook and Flickr.
The point of SendPhotos is to enable people to share photos taken on their mobile phones as easily as possible. "We wanted to create a ‘zero-click' upload service," said Wright. "We created a user friendly web interface using Adobe Flex and there's also an off-line PC client."
Membership of SendPhotos includes a mobile phone client, a PC client, and online access with 1GB of online storage space throughout the duration of the beta phase. As well as facilitating the sharing of photos, the software allows some basic photo editing.
