Intel's response
When HEXUS contacted Intel to find out what it had to say about the speculation over a pending FTC complaint, we were told the firm had "no knowledge of a specific schedule for a decision by the Commission."
Intel spokesman, Chuck Mulloy, told HEXUS his company was "continuing to meet with the FTC, to answer their questions and in general cooperate with the investigation."
He added his hope that the rumours about an impending US antitrust charge were incorrect and noted that Intel continued "to believe the microprocessor market is competitive and works to the benefit of consumers."
"Performance is improving, output is increasing and prices are declining," he said. "This is a market which works and we operate within the bounds of the law," he concluded.
However, only time - and the US justice system - will be able to tell whether Mulloy is correct in his assertion.
