There are some incredible photographers in the HEXUS community - both amateur and professional - and we're frequently blown away by some of the pictures posted in our discussion forums.

But how do you define a really great picture? Is it one that features an incredible landscape? Something with a human element? A major event perhaps? Or just a shot capturing a moment in time that will forever be dear to your heart?

For this week's QOTW, we want you to ponder the above and then, from all the photographs you have ever taken, pick out the one that you consider to be your favourite/best. Once the decision is made, post the picture using the comments facility below (or on Facebook), let us know why you rate it so highly, and which device you used to capture it.

I got a few great photos of our horse Breeze a few days ago, trying to get hold of the tassels on my hoodie before he went out to the field for the day, he was in a daft playful mood hence sticking his tongue out

Both pics were spur of the moment so took on my Xperia T

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like a variety of subjects, genres, but for different reasons. With occasional outstanding exceptions, I'm not a fan of people pics. Most interesting, to me, are well-executed macro shots, because it opens my eyes to the fact that the world about us is not what we perceive. Our eyes are huge filters, and our brains even more do. And a good macro shot shows us something that may be commonplace to us, but from an entirely new perspective.

It makes me think.

And THAT is what I think makes a great shot …. something that makes me think. Something where I can sit and look at it for a period. That might be subject matter, beauty, colour, shape, etc, …. or it might be that it makes me wonder quite what was going on, and those latter ones are the people-pictures that interest me.

As for posting pictures, nah, don't think so. I think only two or three of my pics have ever been posted on the net. I've had more published (because I sold them) in national papers than I've posted on the net …. though that isn't saying much.
Well here is mine, not the best of equipment as such (Canon 1000d + 55-250mm IS lens).

Just like the composition, lighting and subject.
Haven't taken it yet :)

But seriously, took a few good shots at my friends wedding and some were used in the wedding album alongside the professional pics. I won't post those here as they were personal but hope I take some of similar quality again.

Some of the shots in our Photo a day thread are genius and although some members can post a pic that does nothing for me one day, the next they capture a brilliant moment. Others, usually those that make some sort of living from it or win prizes, seem to have a flair for it that I doubt I will ever match. One of the best threads ever on Hexus IMO.
I'm not sure that I'd call it my best but I quite like it :)

Taken with a 60D and 24-105mm f4, at 24mm, f4 & 1/1000.
