SUNNYVALE, CA - May 5, 2003 - AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced sampling of the AMD Alchemy(tm) Solutions Portable Media Tablet Reference Design Kit (RDK), which provides a complete solution for developing portable multimedia and data terminals. Offering enhanced audio/video capabilities and increased battery life using a Web tablet form factor, this fully mobile platform solution runs on both Microsoft® Windows® CE and Linux. The Portable Media Tablet RDK allows remote access to the user's primary PC via a wireless network.

Based on the AMD Alchemy Solutions Au1500(tm) processor, the Portable Media Tablet design package includes both hardware and software solutions to help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) bring Web tablet devices to market quickly. The RDK is engineered to enable an advanced multimedia experience with media-rich consumer applications such as playback of digital video, digital music and digital pictures, while also offering mobile Internet browsing.

Features within the RDK such as Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) for integration with home PCs, and wireless LAN support for easy home networking, provide convenient extensions for wireless computing. In addition, the Portable Media Tablet RDK is designed to enable longer batter life for manufacturers through the integration of mobile functionality.

"The Portable Media Tablet RDK was developed to meet the needs of our customers by providing an enhanced multimedia experience," said Phil Pompa, AMD's vice president, marketing for the Personal Connectivity Solutions group. "Manufacturers need a solution that enables the development of high-performance, low-cost wireless displays with extended battery life. While helping to enable advanced multimedia capabilities, this tool also helps our customers lower development costs, improve the overall computing experience, and bring their products to market in a timely and cost-effective manner."

"The demand for experiencing visually rich multimedia content in a variety of mobile devices is growing very rapidly," said Kevin M. Kitagawa, senior director of marketing at Silicon Motion, a leading supplier of integrated mobile graphics and video acceleration solutions. "Designing this type of device requires a careful balance between system performance and battery life. The Portable Media Tablet RDK will help OEMs quickly and easily deliver innovative products to market by optimizing the AMD Alchemy Au1500 CPU and Silicon Motion's SM501 multimedia companion chip.[K1] "
