  • EE ranked number one overall mobile network operator in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and joint first in Wales
  • More than 840,000 test samples undertaken across the UK to find the number one mobile network

13th March, 2014 - EE has today been named as the number one mobile network in the UK, following comprehensive independent testing from RootMetrics. RootMetrics assessed all four major operators, collecting over 840,000 test samples and driving more than 23,000 miles - the equivalent of driving from Land's End to John O'Groats 27 times.

EE was ranked number one in network performance in all major categories in the UK:

  • Number one for overall network performance
  • Number one for network reliability
  • Number one for speed
  • Number one for mobile internet performance
  • Number one for call performance
  • Number one for text performance

EE also took the top spot overall in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and was joint top in Wales. EE was top or joint top in all categories in all nations in the most thorough independent, customer-centric mobile network testing ever undertaken in the UK.

The award comes less than 18 months after the launch of EE. Since 2012, EE has invested over £1 billion in its network, and will spend a further £500 million further expanding 4G coverage to the next 25% of the population and enhancing phone call quality.

Olaf Swantee, CEO at EE, said:

"Today's results show that the EE network gives customers everywhere in the UK the best mobile experience. This is down to our ongoing investment in introducing 4G, increasing 3G capacity and upgrading 2G, while also spending hundreds of millions on phone call quality. We encourage the most rigorous independent testing of mobile networks in the UK, and strive to set new standards in performance and reliability."
