PRESS RELEASE

  • 50,000 new customers signed up to TalkTalk Mobile, which took 11% of the total UK SIM market in December, ahead of Vodafone and Tesco Mobile
  • 115,000 new TV customers; taking total number of TalkTalk TV homes to 1.3m million
  • 88,000 new fibre customers, with broadband churn at its lowest ever level

TUESDAY 3 FEBRUARY: TalkTalk today reported its best ever results for mobile, TV and fibre, as customers continue to recognise the significant savings they can make with TalkTalk. Between September and December, 115,000 more homes signed up to TalkTalk TV, 50,000 took mobile and 88,000 signed up to fibre. The number of overall broadband customers increased by 15,000, while the number of customers choosing to leave TalkTalk fell to its lowest ever reported level.

The growth in mobile means that c. 10% of customers now take TalkTalk Mobile. In November TalkTalk launched its first ever quad-play package, where Plus customers get a free SIM with 100 minutes, 250 texts and 200MB of data a month, worth £90, along with their TV, home phone and broadband services. The positive customers response helped TalkTalk Mobile take 11% of the UK SIM-only market in December, ahead of Vodafone and Tesco Mobile.

TalkTalk also recently refreshed its Mobile plans to help save customers even more money by adding extra data or minutes without additional cost. Ofcom data shows the average home pays £80.39 a month for separate TV, broadband, landline and mobile package. Comparatively, families can save 76% a year by choosing TalkTalk's Plus package.

TalkTalk TV also continued to go from strength to strength, as another 115,000 customers signed up to TalkTalk's great value YouView packages. It is still the fastest growing TV service in the UK with 1.3m customers; a third of TalkTalk homes. TalkTalk champions flexible TV and lets families dip in and out by adding additional channels, or 'Boosts' for just a month at a time, with no on-going commitment. Sky Movies was the most popular Boost during September and December, followed by a combined Sky Sports and Movies Boost. Disney's Oscar-nominated Maleficent was the most popular film rental, followed by Mrs Browns's Boys D'Movie and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

As part of its commitment to continually improve its content offering, Netflix, the world's leading internet TV network, is now launched on TalkTalk TV, meaning customers can now have instant, easy access to even more great content, such as critically acclaimed original series House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.

This follows the recent announcement that TalkTalk has acquired pay as you go digital movie and TV service, blinkbox Movies in a deal that will accelerate development of TalkTalk TV by delivering key services significantly faster, such as a TV app to customers for in and out of home viewing on multiple devices. Just last week, TalkTalk TV was crowned the Best TV Provider at the annual uSwitch Awards.

Alongside this, customers continued to join TalkTalk for its best value broadband, with 15,000 more customers signing up to broadband overall. Currently, customers signing up to TalkTalk's totally unlimited Simply Broadband can save over £200 a year vs. BT. The significant drop in the number of customers leaving TalkTalk is also a reflection of the continuous effort and investment that is going into improving the customer experience.

Commenting on the results, Tristia Harrison, Managing Director of Consumer, said "It's great to see even more of our customers make significant savings on their household bills by bundling more of their services together with TalkTalk. The response we've seen to our mobile offering makes us excited about the future of quad play, and the fact that we continue to be Britain's fastest growing TV service, demonstrates the huge demand from consumers for flexible, value-for-money packages. We've always been clear that our mission is to help make families across Britain better off. It's exciting to see our plans accelerating and more TalkTalk homes benefiting as a result."

About TalkTalk

At TalkTalk we're committed to making Britain better off. Since entering the market with free broadband in 2006, we have consistently provided the country's best value-for-money TV, broadband, mobile and home phone.

We have helped drive down the average price of broadband dramatically, benefiting not only our 4 million customers, but allowing consumers today to pay nearly half of what they did then, whilst also getting more for their money. TalkTalk continues to offer Britain's lowest priced packages and is the only UK broadband provider that offers totally unlimited broadband for all packages.

More and more customers are choosing to take superfast fibre broadband and mobile from us. Our Plus TV package - our first quad-play package - now comes with an inclusive TalkTalk Mobile SIM.

Having launched our popular TV service in 2012 we reached 1.3 million TV customers in December 2014. This rapid growth makes YouView from TalkTalk Britain's fastest growing TV service, having added more TV customers over each of the last six quarters than BT, Sky and Virgin Media combined.

We also continue to lead in industry innovation, particularly in keeping our customers safe online. We led the way for the industry with the launch of HomeSafeTM, our free ground breaking whole home security and safety service, now active in more than 1.2 million homes. In May 2014 we came together in a world first with our competitors to launch Internet Matters, a not-for-profit organisation to help parents protect their children online.

Supporting charities and social initiatives using technology for good has always been important to us and we are co-founding partners of Go ON UK. We've been running the TalkTalk Digital Heroes Awards for seven years and have helped over 78 unique charitable causes that benefit their local community through technology.
