Philips might not be touting world's first features likes Sony or Toshiba, but its IFA-unveiled Essence LCD is quite the eye catcher.

The Essence, pictured below as the 42in 42PES0001, measures just 38mm thick and focuses on being practical, tidy and ideal for wall mounting.

That little box you see next to the screen is the connectivity hub, it'll take in all your audio/video and power inputs, and then run a single cable from itself to the screen. Not only will that help keep things tidy, but it'll make for easy access to all your cables.

The screen itself offers a 1080p full-HD panel with 100Hz processing, and a 66,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. It provides three HDMI ports, as well as an Ethernet and USB port. The removable soundbar offers 2x15W output, but our favourite component is the bundled wall mounting system - allowing for a near-flush attachment to your wall of choice.

How's that for sexy? No word on pricing or availability yet, but we'd expect to pay a premium for the super-slim goodness.
