Final thoughts and rating
Logitech's G35 surround sound headset packs in some Dolby magic to create pseudo 7.1-channel sound from a two-speaker unit. The processing works reasonably well in games that support 5.1-channel or 7.1-channel audio, by providing a wider, deeper soundstage than with just stereo activated. The sound isn't perfect in a positional sense, but the benefits over 2-channel usage are clear enough.Extending the usefulness further, Logitech also adds three customisable buttons and a voice-morphing feature; more a gimmick than anything else, but cool nonetheless. Build quality is very good and the cans, whilst a touch heavy, can be worn for hours with decent comfort.
Priced at around £100, available in a couple of weeks time, the Logitech G35s can be considered as the Jack of all trades, but the master of none. Should a subsequent model be lighter, louder, and slightly better at stereo reproduction it could well be a winner. As it is, the G35s are just above average, given the asking price.
The good
Dolby processing works
Comfortable when worn for extended periods
Customisable buttons and voice-altering software are cool
The not so good
Volume range is limited
Slightly mushy when outputting stereo sound
Awkwardly-placed buttons may cause problems
HEXUS Rating
HEXUS.net scores products out of 100%, taking into account technology, implementation, stability, performance, value, customer care and desirability. A score for an average-rated product is a meaningful ‘50%’, and not ‘90%’, which is common practice for a great many other publications.
We consider any product score above '50%' as a safe buy. The higher the score, the higher the recommendation from HEXUS to buy. Simple, straightforward buying advice.
