MANCHESTER, UK - 12th August 2003 - Game2XS.com, a global online gaming technology provider, today announces that the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (DTI) has awarded their trading company RxTxTech Limited a SMART (Small Firms Merit Award for Research and Technology) Award, and associated funding.

The DTI is providing the company with £45,000 ($73,068) in funding to support the feasibility study of a high-performance conditional access system for chargeable Internet services, such as online PC and console games, online gambling, and premium content providers.

Currently, to make an online game chargeable the code must be modified to employ add-on mechanisms that provide subscription or "pay per view" access. These mechanisms are never really secure, and in many cases the content providers do not have the ability to modify the application. To be truly secure, the 'toll gate' should be at the network level, without requiring any application modifications, and should also provide fraud detection and prevention mechanisms.

Jonathan Bale, Managing Director commented, "We are delighted that we have attracted the support of the DTI to fund the feasibility study of our conditional access system. We will be exploring the use of standard PC hardware and the Linux operating system to provide a secure, network-level conditional access solution. This technology has huge potential benefits for computer games companies wishing to offer chargeable Massively Multiplayer Games, and Online Session based titles."
