About Team Dignitas

Team Dignitas was formed on 9th September 2003 with the merging of two of the best Battlefield 1942 clans, European team Legion Condor and Swedish team Kompanix. Our BF1942 team was the best in the world and we looked around for sponsors so that we could travel to events like most teams do now but we were very naive about what sponsors were looking for at the time. I was at that stage taking a rear seat in our team’s management as I was working full time and playing in the evenings.

One of our players had been reviewing hardware for several companies and he gave us the contact details for Scott Thirlwell the then Marketing Director at ABIT in Taiwan. We wrote to him with a proposal and he replied inviting us to meet him at CeBIT in Germany. We met him and he offered us our first sponsorship deal, which was fantastic and one of the first for a so-called “Minor eSport” game. We also set ourselves up as a Limited company registered in England.

At this point a small power struggle took place in the team with one of our players offering to manage us but with a 40% cut of the income. At this point I stepped up with the agreement of the majority of our players I took control. I offered to simply act on behalf of the original BF 1942 players and look after all our interests for free. I realised the opportunity we had been given by ABIT was too good to waste so we also decided at that point to slowly expand into other games. The aim of this was to try and build Team Dignitas into one of the largest professional gaming teams in the world. By achieving this we would be able to help our players attend major eSport events and for the players that is essential. This aim remains in place today.

We met with John Moseley from Creative in 2005 at the CPL event in Sheffield and we signed a deal with them. I must say that they have been absolutely fantastic partners for us and have been extremely supportive of our activities. At the Multiplay i29 LAN in Newbury last November we finally got to meet Elan Raja from Scan who had supported us at three previous events with systems. Our latest sponsorship deal is the fruit of that meeting and we are delighted that Scan Computers, Corsair and XFX have given us this opportunity to represent them.
