46 – the final add-on

The next and final add-on for the IL2 series comes in the diminutively named 46. Rather than base the game in historical fact, 46 is more of a ‘what if?’ game, where World War 2 didn’t finish in 1945 and is still raging in 1946.

By then, both the VVS and the Luftwaffe would have developed advanced jet and rocket fighters as well as missile based weapons, nearly all of which were only drawing board designs back in 1945. Now, for the first time, you’ll be able to aircraft that really did exist in at least concept form, but never even made it to the prototype stage.

Not only that, but you’ll still be able to fly aircraft that were the forerunners of more famous types flown in later conflicts, such as the MiG-9, predecessor to the MiG-15 that featured so heavily in the Korean War or the Arado Ar-234 Blitz, the world’s first operational jet bomber.

The 46 add-on pack also features a large historical map of Kiev as well as 5 single missions, 5 co-op missions and a static campaign of over 45 missions.[advert]

New flyable aircraft:

VVS
Bereznyak-Isaev BI-6
Lavochkin LaGG-3R
Lavochkin La-7R
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-9
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-13
Yakolev Yak-3R
Yakolev Yak-3 VK-107A
Yakolev Yak-15

Luftwaffe
Arado Ar-234B
Heinkel He-L-IIIB2
Heinkel He-162B
Heinkel He-162C
Messershmitt Me-262HG-II
Tank Ta-152C
Tank Ta-183

In addition to all that lot there’s new tanks, trenches, dozens of other new ground objects over 200 new paint schemes and new black and white intro tracks… surely an excellent way to see off the fantastic IL2 series!

46 is intriguing….

Manchuria is equally interesting for online warfare.

How big are these..anyone know?

Downloadable? CD? DVD?
I doubt I'll be buying these. Few of the aicraft appeal to me, and I have recently learned that the single player mode of the game, campaigns especially, obsolutely annoy the crap out of me.
They will probably be download only from UbiSoft. The last addon (4.05 PE-2) was roughly 145MB with 1 plane and a couple of maps, these new addons will have a lot more planes, maps and other objects so I will stick my neck out and say at least 250+MB per addon to download.
I'm personally really looking forward to the FW152C, this looks like the ultimate air superiority piston engined fighter with enough fire power to obliviate a B17 formation. P51& P47 jocks watch out, you have been warned.
Speaking to Oleg, it appears there were a fair few complaints about the ‘download only’ of the last big add-on, so both of these will be DVD based…

I'll try and find out if they'll be downloadable too.

you're safe if I'm in the sky with a P51…safe as houses. Even if you're in a Bristol Box Kite or a raggedy old DR1, if I'm in a P51, the only danger you're in is me stalling and falling on your head!
